A Beautiful Sunday weekend in Malaya

It was a beautiful Sunday as 21 members of the Seng Clan Association (Singapore) made their way by coach across the Johore immigration led by Mr Michael Seng, tour leader and Clan's Secretary. The pleasant journey took members to the first stop at the tropical fruit farm in Melaka. It was an educational and an appetising experience as members were feted to a fruits buffet topped with durians.

After lunch, the journey continued to Kuala Lumpur where members stopped at Bukit Bintang for shopping cum light dinner. The next stop was the school hall at Kuala Lumpur where the Seng Clan Associaiton Malaysia was holding their 18th Anniversary Celebrations. It was an eventful night as the Seng Clansmen from China had also joined in the celebrations. President Mr Seng Joo How presented the Malaysia and China Seng Clans with mementos of the new Seng Clan Logo.

After the dinner, the Singapore delegations made their way to Genting Highlands for an overnight stay. By then, it was almost past midnight but Genting was still bustling with activities. It was free and easy for everyone as some preferred to take a rest whilst others tested their luck at the casino. The next day, it was back home with fond memories and for some, an enriching experience.

Double Joy Fest @ Tai Seng

It was a night of double joy at the Tai Seng Teochew Restaurant in Singapore. First, the Seng Clan Association (Singapore) hosted a dinner reception for the delegation of 40 clansmen from China. This was a traditional way of welcoming guests from abroad and an opportunity to strengthen social ties.

Second, it was the birthday of our committee member Mr Sung Yoon Chon. It was the first time he was celebrating his birthday at such an occasion. This made the dinner reception more meaningful and extraordinary. The birthday boy was all smiles as he cut the cake to the cheers and many good wishes lavished on him.

Indeed, it was a memorable party which would long be remembered.

It is not usual for 40 clansmen to pass by Singapore en-masse. They were en-route to Kuala Lumpur to attend the Malaysia Seng Clan Annual Dinner and decided to drop by Singapore.

The Seng Clan Association (Singapore) Management Committee members were at Changi Airport to welcome the delegation from China. It was like a big family gathering as ties were renewed.

Fostering Bondage and Strengthening Ties

A rousing welcome awaited the delegation from Singapore as the coach cruise into the driveway of San Yin village school in Swatow on the bright afternoon of 20 June 2006. It was a memorable day for the students, teachers, school officials and residents as they broke into loud cheers to welcome the arrival of the Yio Chu Kang Grass-root leaders led by Adviser Mr Seng Han Thong. Accompanying him were Mr Seng Joo How, President of the Seng Clan Association (Singapore) together with other committee members, Mr Seng Siew Hua and Mr Peter Seng Hong Nguan.

The school officials gave a report of the progress of the school and the achievements for the past 13 years. According to the principal, more classrooms have been added thanks to the financial contributions from the Seng Clan Singapore. The school was proud that it had achieved 1st position for two years in 1999 and 2001 and 2nd position for the other years. Between 1993 up to date. a total of 427 students have graduated from the school

In his speech, the President of Seng Clan Association (Singapore) Mr Seng Joo How commended the school for their achievements in providing wholesome education for the clan’s children. He advised the officials to also look into teaching of English Language and Computer Literacy so as to open the gateway to a reservoir of knowledge and to link to the international community. After the speeches and exchange of mementos, the Singapore delegation toured the school premises. Indeed the village school has come of age. The Singapore delegation left impressed with the achievements of the humble village school.

The new Logo is in two colours, red and white with the Chinese character based on the Ming style of writing. The red colour signifies strength and vibrancy. The white colour signifies purity and virtue. The Management Committee hopes that the Clan will grow from strength to strength towards a new successful vision.

13th Annual General Meeting

13th Annual General Meeting Corporate Date : 11 February 2006 (Saturday) Time : 3.00 pm Venue : Skylight Café, Oxford Hotel Pte Ltd The Seng Clan Association (Singapore) 13th AGM on 11 Feb 2006 was a water-shed in several ways. (a) A New Team A new team of younger members was elected to office as part of the on-going process of self-renewal. This new team also comprised several senior members who agreed to serve in the management committee to share their experience and provide guidance. (b) A New Focus The meeting agreed not to pursue with the purchase of an office premises in view of the limited financial resources and the higher operating expenditure envisaged. This would enable the new team to focus more on creating bonding and fostering closer ties. (c) A New Impetus In this information age, IT is vital to organizational efficiency and effectiveness. It is therefore important for the Clan to leverage on information technology. Hence, IT and Communications will take on a new impetus as the New Team charts out its future direction. 13th Anniversary Dinner

Date: 3 March 2006 (Friday) Time: 8.00pm Venue: Mong Hing Teochew Restaurant The Seng Clan welcomed members and families of the Seng Clan to its 13th Anniversary Dinner. The President Mr. Seng Joo How and Adviser Mr. Seng Han Thong expressed their appreciation to all the members for their presence, participation and support. In his welcoming address, the President spoke of three changes taking place within the Association : Management Change A new team of younger members had been elected to office at the 13th AGM on 11 Feb. 2006. This is part of the ongoing process of renewal. Organisation Change The Association is changing the way of communication and organizing activities. This blogsite www.sengclan.blogspot.com is one of these upcoming changes taking place. The Association also has an e-mail address www.sengclan@yahoo.com . Image Change A new Logo will be launched soon to give the Clan a more modern and vibrant image. To create an identity, the Association intends to give each member a plastic membership cum privilege card.

Members and their families were served with a sumptuous teochew dinner. They were entertained by a team of young and talented budding singers who serenaded the night with their melody mandarin and english songs. The highlight of the evening was the lucky draw with shopping vouchers ranging from $20 to $100.

The Management Committee toasted members with their "Yam Seng" to wish all members and their families good health, prosperity and happiness. Going forward, the Association looked towards the active participation and continued support of all members.
