Fostering Bondage and Strengthening Ties

A rousing welcome awaited the delegation from Singapore as the coach cruise into the driveway of San Yin village school in Swatow on the bright afternoon of 20 June 2006. It was a memorable day for the students, teachers, school officials and residents as they broke into loud cheers to welcome the arrival of the Yio Chu Kang Grass-root leaders led by Adviser Mr Seng Han Thong. Accompanying him were Mr Seng Joo How, President of the Seng Clan Association (Singapore) together with other committee members, Mr Seng Siew Hua and Mr Peter Seng Hong Nguan.

The school officials gave a report of the progress of the school and the achievements for the past 13 years. According to the principal, more classrooms have been added thanks to the financial contributions from the Seng Clan Singapore. The school was proud that it had achieved 1st position for two years in 1999 and 2001 and 2nd position for the other years. Between 1993 up to date. a total of 427 students have graduated from the school
In his speech, the President of Seng Clan Association (Singapore) Mr Seng Joo How commended the school for their achievements in providing wholesome education for the clan’s children. He advised the officials to also look into teaching of English Language and Computer Literacy so as to open the gateway to a reservoir of knowledge and to link to the international community. After the speeches and exchange of mementos, the Singapore delegation toured the school premises. Indeed the village school has come of age. The Singapore delegation left impressed with the achievements of the humble village school.
