Day 1 – Genting Highlands
It was a time to relax and rejoice as 22 Seng Clan Members and friends set off on Saturday, 23 August 2008 for Genting Highlands enroute to Ipoh to celebrate the Malaysia Seng Clan 20th Anniversary Dinner. The delegation, led by President Mr Seng Kok How , arrived at First New World Hotel in Genting Highlands at about 4.30 pm. After checking in, it was free and easy for everyone.
Day 2 – Ipoh ( 20th Anniversary Dinner)
The next day, after breakfast, the delegation headed north for Ipoh. Before hitting the North-South Highway, the local tour guide spotted a durian stall at the road side. Without hesitation, everyone agreed to descend and savoured the king of fruits like no tomorrow to the delight of the Malay lady stall-holder. Indeed, no trip to Malaysia would be complete without a feast of durians.
After arriving in Ipoh at about 1.30 pm for lunch, the group visited the famous Perak Cave and marveled at the wall murals inside the cave and the magnificent images of the four heavenly guardians, the Buddha and the Goddess of Mercy.
The next stop was the local product shop well known for their “Tau Sah Piah” and “Pong Piah”. Everyone had a good time browsing, sampling and selecting the local products. Singaporeans like to shop and the group was no exception.

The delegation then checked in at Heritage Hotel Ipoh (see www.heritage.my) for overnight stay. At 7.00 pm, the delegation left the hotel for the Sun Lee How Fook Restaurant to attend the Malaysia Seng Clan 20th Anniversary Dinner. Three “lions” greeted the delegation to the sound of drums and gongs. Surprisingly, the dinner started punctually at 7.30 pm. There were speeches, including one, by our President Mr Seng Kok How, who delivered his maiden speech in fluent mandarin with gusto. He also presented a memento to the President of the Malaysia Seng Clan.
Day 3 - Singapore(Home)
After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, the delegation left Ipoh but not without paying a visit to another famous cave the Kek Lok Cave. The interior of this cave was much bigger, the stalactite more admirable and the view astounding. It’s definitely a must see if you do visit Ipoh next time.
Before heading south, you cannot leave Ipoh without taking away some Pomelo. So the next stop was the Pomelo shops that lined Jalan Gopeng. The tour guide recommended the auspicious sounding stall operated by two young and sweet ladies who did a roaring business selling many pomelos , some at 3 for RM 10 for the smaller fruits and as much as RM 9 to RM 25 for the bigger ones.

On the way back, the group stopped for lunch at an exquisite restaurant. Not only was the food tasty, but the décor was different. Antique grandfather clocks lined the walls and many heritage items decorated the restaurant, bring back memories of the earlier childhood days for many. There were kerosene lamps, charcoal irons and even rice grinding mill-stone.

The journey was safe and sound as the delegation arrived back home at about 8.00 pm. It was a pleasant and enjoyable trip judging by the feedback and the thumbs up from everyone. We have to thank our Secretary Mr Michael Seng Miang Huat for making all the arrangements and all the participating members and their friends for making this trip possible and for their generous contribution of RM1300 for the dinner.
